Together with your counsellor you will explore your present issues and develop a road map that outlines how, as a team, your issues can be addressed. You ultimately decide how long the counselling relationship will last; it depends on your goals, needs, circumstances, and level of commitment. You might be seeking assistance with a specific problem that can be fixed in a few sessions, or you might be looking for a long-term helping relationship that becomes a regular part of your life. It's crucial that you maintain control and make your own therapeutic decisions. Here's a guide as to what you can expect during counselling:


The aims of the counselling process will be defined
There will be a discussion and clarification of the themes identified from your issue
Your goals for counselling will be clearly established
